How long will it take to activate my hosting account?
|
We work on a 2-working-days turn around time for the setting up of hosting space under new domain names, but it will be dependent on how quickly the domain name can be registered. Setting up of hosting space for an existing domain that needs to be transferred to All Africa Interactive's servers may take longer and turn around times will depend on the transfer process.
To ensure a constant level of service to ALL our clients, setups of new accounts, creation of database DSN's, email forwarding, mailboxes, etc is done during the following hours:
Monday - Thursday: 08:30 - 16:30
We ask clients to inform the technical team of such setup issues within the allocated setup times. |

How do I transfer my existing web site to All Africa for hosting purposes?
|
You need to keep a copy of your web site in order to upload it again to All Africa Interactive’s servers once the domain has been transferred and the All Africa hosting space activated. If you want us to download your site and upload it again onto our servers, please supply us with the username and password used to gain access to the site at your current hosting provider (before we start the domain transfer).
If you have an existing domain name, you need to confirm that your current Hosting provider will release the name for transfer to our servers. We will request the transfer, but the existing Owner, Administrative Contact and Technical Contact, will receive an e-mail asking them to accept the transfer of the domain. If one of these contacts denies the transfer request, the domain will not be transferred. If there is a dispute over the transfer of the domain, your All Africa Interactive representative can advise you about the method for faxing a transfer request directly to the registering body, as long as you are the registered owner of the domain name.
Please note that if your domain was registered by Register.Com, or any other registrar making use of password protected accounts for registration, you need to supply us with the account’s username and password, in order for us to transfer the domain. Alternatively we will give you the server details to add to your account.
If the transfer requests are accepted first time around, the following turn around times for transfers apply:
.co.za : 24 hours
.com/.net/.org: 48 -72 hours
.za.net/.za.org: 24 hours to 2 weeks
Other domain types – to be advised |

I’ve uploaded my web site, but when I browse, I still see the temporary site that says: “Hosted by All Africa interactive ”. How do I rectify that?
|
| Please ensure that your entry page is named default.htm or index.htm and that the default page is placed in the correct folder. Please contact us if your site employs scripting technology such as .asp or .php. |

Why can’t I see certain components of my FrontPage-designed site?
|
Certain FrontPage components will not work if you have used the "import" method to upload. It is therefore recommended that the "publish" method be used. Alternatively, your FrontPage Extensions may be corrupted, please contact our Technical team for assistance.
If you wish to customise a Frontpage script, it is advisable to rather make changes in HTML than in NORMAL.
It is also advisable to do any adding of FrontPage components “Live” i.e., While you are online. |

What are domain names?
|
Domain names are text names, which are used for finding one's way around the Internet. It is part of a system called DNS (Domain Name System), which converts the name into an IP (Internet Protocol) number and vice versa. Instead of having to say my company's web site can be found at (e.g.)196.22.209.22, I can say that our company web site is at www.allafrica.co.za and my e-mail address is sales@allafrica.co.za.
In the case of a web site address, the domain name is that part of the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) that tells a domain name server, using DNS, whether and where to forward a request for the specified web page. |

Can I register any name?
|
Registration of domain names are generally on a first-come-first-served basis, providing that no 3rd party rights are infringed upon.
Technically, the letters in the alphabet (A-Z) and the numbers (0-9) and the hyphen (-) may be used. The technical character limit for some domain types may be up to 256 characters, but it is recommended that you keep the domain name as short as possible.
Legally, neither the registrar, nor the ISP doing the registration on behalf of a client, have any authority over the allocation of certain domain names and can therefore not be held liable in any domain name disputes.
Domain name disputes must be settled between the parties who lay claim to the name, failing which, the matter will have to be settled in court.
Please note that "cyber-squatting" i.e. the registering of a domain with the sole intention of reselling it is not condoned by the Internet Community and some registrars strictly forbid this practice. |

|
Should I register a .com/.co.za/.info, etc?
|
The type of domain you register has no influence on how widely your web site information or e-mail address is accessed. As long as the "top-level domain" is administered according to the parameters set out by IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority), your web site and e-mail address will be accessible from anywhere in the world, no matter what domain type you have chosen to register your own name under.
We therefore suggest that the choice of domain type be based primarily on what the specific domain type is intended and most widely used for, as well as the rules of registration. |

|
If I register a domain name with All Africa Interactive, must it remain on your servers?
|
| Once your domain is registered to your company and assuming the registration and renewal fees (where applicable) has been paid for in full, your domain name belongs to you and you are free to host your domain wherever you wish, be it locally or internationally. |

|
What happens after the name is Registered?
|
As soon as the Domain Name has been cleared by the relevant registering authority, it is "delegated" to All Africa Interactive's DNS servers.
Once the name is held on the All Africa Interactive's servers, you are able to use your domain for the other facilities that we offer, e.g. Web Design, Web Hosting, E-mail, etc. |

|
